OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's swimming team fell to 0-4 (0-2 Skyline) on the season Tuesday evening, surrendering to the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0 Skyline) by the final tally of 98-87.
In spite of the Panthers' overall shortcomings, freshmen
Sandi Woodhead and
Jessie O'Hagan continued their impressive starts to their Old Westbury careers.
Woodhead set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:33.87) and finished in first, nearly 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Woodhead also claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.58) as well as the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.59).
Woodhead has now finished first in all nine individual events she's competed in this season.
O'Hagan also had another solid outing, finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:20.71) and second in the 50-yard freestyle (30.52) in back-to-back events. She would claim first place again in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.28) later in the meet.
Second-place finishes were also in the cards for Luccranie Gedeon—200-yard IM, 3:21.33—and
Ashleigh Morris—100-yard backstroke, 1:42.20.
In both relays—the 200-yard medley (2:35.58;
Ashleigh Morris,
Jennifer Castillo, Tatianna Pizzaro,
Hayley McGinn) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:26.81;
Sezgi Giray,
Alexis Upshur, Tatianna Pizzaro, Luccranie Gedeon)—Old Westbury placed second.
PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE OLD WESTBURY PANTHERS: Both the women's and men's swimming teams return to the pool on Tuesday (Nov. 19) for a Skyline Conference meet at home with the Purchase Panthers. First race is set for 6 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
