Swimming sweeps York in road tri-meet

Old Westbury is back in the pool Saturday (Dec. 7) for a Skyline quad-meet at Mount Saint Mary College

JAMAICA, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming returned to the pool Wednesday evening on the road against the Queens College Knights and the host York College Cardinals inside York College Swimming Pool in Jamaica, New York. The Panther men captured victory against the Cardinals by a final score of 89-70 while Old Westbury completed the sweep of York, 80-76.  The Panther women suffered a 72-61 setback to the Knights.

Leading the Panther men was Joseph Malone, who would go on to take first place in the 100-meter butterfly (1:08.58) and 400-meter freestyle (4:37.91). Daniel Grinchenko finished in first place (1:16.05) 100-meter freestyle event.   Alberto Matsuura also touched the wall first in the 200-meter freestyle (3:00.11) while finishing second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:20.17).  Daniel McCartney followed with a second-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (26.29) and in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:18.43). Timothy Probst finished second in the 200-meter individual medley (3:14.04) and in the 400-meter freestyle (7:17.91). Elijah Lee sat in fourth in the 50-meter freestyle (38.97) and in fifth (1:32.61) in the 100-meter freestyle races. Jassell Mateo claimed third place in the 50-meter freestyle (37.59) and sixth place in the 100-meter freestyle (1:33.55).  Lorenzo Cusumano swam in the 100-meter backstroke race to take fifth in a time of 1:41.89 while Tilyk Bonner finished fifth in the 50-meter freestyle (40.47).

The 200-meter medley relay squad of Cusumano, McCartney, Malone and Grinchenko captured victory in a time of 2:15.56. To conclude the meet, Cusumano, Grinchenko, Matsuura and Probst combined to place fist in the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:50.85.

On the women's side, Dina Terki led the way in the 400-meter freestyle (7:45.28) and 200-meter freestyle (3:41.55) events for first and third place finishes, respectively. Mia Hidalgo finished the 200-meter individual medley in a time of 3:28.90 for second place and placed third in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:37.51).  Adelyn Veras followed with a second-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:41.14). Diana Castellanos touched the wall second in the 800-meter freestyle (18:35.58) and third in the 100-meter freestyle (1:44.89). Rebecca Warshauer claimed second (100-meter freestyle, 1:40.56) and fifth (50-meter freestyle, 41.02) place in her competitions. Angelica Galletti grabbed fourth place (40.97) in the 50-meter freestyle. Magan Blige took seventh (50-meter freestyle, 43.44) while Yvette Domond finished 11th in the 50-meter freestyle (1:04.64) race.

Terki, Hidalgo, Veras and Blige opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay (2:56.79) as Veras, Castellanos, Blige and Warshauer captured victory in the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:42.70) to close out the meet.

Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday (Dec. 7) to take on the Mount Saint Mary Knights, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears and Purchase College Panthers at 1 p.m. inside Kaplan Center Pool in Newburgh, New York.
