OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's swimming team won eight of the 11 events, defeating the New Rochelle Blue Angels (66-29) and St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (62-32), Tuesday evening at home in Clark Athletic Center.
Old Westbury improves to 2-5 on the season while New Rochelle moves to 1-5 and St. Joseph's dropped to 1-5 after the Blue Angels took the win over the Bears with a score of 52-43.
Old Westbury was led by freshmen
Sandi Woodhead and
Jessie O'Hagan, who each claimed a pair of individual victories in addition to contributing season best times in both relay victories.
Woodhead snagged wins in the 200-yard IM (2:31.01) and 100-yard butterfly (1:10.46) races while teaming up with
Larissa Kavitsky,
Rachel Heath and
Hayley McGinn to claim first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:00.84. The victory improved Woodhead to 15-0 to start her collegiate career.
O'Hagan captured first place honors in the 200-yard freestyle (2:23.76) and 100-yard backstroke (1:11.43) events to go along with a victory season-best time of 2:20.69 in the 200-yard medley relay squad with teammates
Melanie Barone,
Tatianna Pizarro and McGinn.
Other first place finishers for Old Westbury include Kavitsky, in the 50-yard freestyle (30.65), and Barone, who took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.88).
ECAC PRE-SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury hits the road for the ECAC Pre-Season Championships December 6-8 at Lehman College's APEX Swimming Pool. Friday's action starts at 6 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday are set for 10 a.m. in Bronx, New York.
