Box Score

NEWARK, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup against the visiting FDU-Florham Devils (3-1) on Saturday afternoon by the score of 4-0 from Panther Park. It was the Panthers' (1-1) first defeat of the 2013 campaign.

FDU-Florham jumped out to an early two-goal lead courtesy of two eighth-minute goals scored by Michelle Hickey and Claire Donohue.

Old Westbury's Joanna Kettell had a chance to cut the deficit in half in the 20th minute when she broke free of the defense and fired a shot high and wide to the left side. The Panthers' only other scoring opportunity came off the foot of Sara Bey in the 64th minute.

Keeper Caitlin Thomas was busy, making six saves in a match in which her side was outshot 19-2.

Positive signs for the Panthers were the strong outings of Emily Winberry and Christine Fernandez, who did a solid job shoring up the right side of the pitch.

NEW JERSEY CITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on Saturday afternoon, when they host the New Jersey City Gothic Knights. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m. from Panther Park.
