WAYNE, N.J. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming opened its 2019-20 campaign Tuesday evening with setbacks to the William Paterson University Pioneers (M: 2-0 / W: 2-0) by final scores of 90-64 and 75-66, respectively, in non-conference road action from Wightman Pool in Wayne, New Jersey.
 
Joseph Malone led Old Westbury on the men's side with a pair of first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (59.51) and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.98) races while placing second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.52). Austin Young followed by taking first place in the 100-backstroke (1:07.64) and finished in third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.66) race.  In their debut, Alejandro Ruiz-Soto claimed first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:44.94) while Daniel Grinchenko claimed third-place in the 100-yard freestyle (1:11.35). Lorenzo Cusumano earned second-place points in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.20) as he made his return to the pool.  
 
Young, Grinchenko, Cusumano and Ruiz-Soto combined to finish the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:59.54 to register first-place points. 
 
Adelyn Veras paced the Panthers in the women's race with a pair of first-place points in the 100-yard freestyle (1:12.49) and 100-yard backstroke (1:32.09).  In their debut, Amy Arias-Torres grabbed first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:50.72) and earned two points in the 200-yard freestyle by grabbing fourth in 3:21.08 while Dina Terki captured first-place points in the 500-yard freestyle (9:09.97).  Rebecca Warshauer added a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (38.44) and earned third-place points in the 100-yard freestyle (1:50.10). 
 
Magan Blige, Diana Castellanos, Warshauer, Terki combined to finish the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:43.95 to capture first-place points. Terki, Veras, Arias-Torres and Blige opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:51.04.
