Swimming opens Skyline home slate against Maritime

Old Westbury returns to the pool next Wednesday (Nov. 20) at United States Merchant Marine Academy quad-meet

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming opened its home schedule Tuesday evening against the Maritime College Privateers (M:4-0, 2-0 Skyline / W:2-2,2-0 Skyline). The Privateers claimed victory over the Panthers (M: 0-7, 0-3 Skyline / W: 0-8, 0-2 Skyline) with a 125-85 men's final and a 100-75 decision on the women's side to complete the sweep.

Joseph Malone paced the Panther men with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 10:47.63 and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.99). Daniel McCartney followed with by finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.74) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.17). Austin Young chipped in with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.04) and placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.45). Daniel Grinchenko claimed fourth in both the 100-yard (1:07.53) and 200-yard freestyle (2:41.83) events while Timothy Probst finished fourth in the 200-yard IM (3:04.70), 500-yard freestyle (8:05.52) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:42.13). Alejandro Ruiz-Soto finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.12) and also competed in the 50-yard freestyle (32.46) while Alberto Matsuura took sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle (28.36) in his season debut. Tilyk Bonner (32.67) and Jassell Mateo (37.52) both competed in the 50-yard freestyle while Elijah Lee (1:23.60) and Mateo (1:26.11) swam in the 100-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Malone, Grinchenko, Young and McCartney combined to finish in 1:43.61 to place third.

On the women's side, Mia Hidalgo captured the win in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:30.59 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:39.46. Diana Castellanos followed with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:26.39) while Magan Blige added a third place finish (1:27.86) and fourth place (38.20) in the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle events, respectively. Adelyn Veras touched the wall third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:30.73 as Rebecca Warshauer placed fourth (41.14, 50-yard freestyle) and fifth (1:39.43, 100-yard freestyle) in her individual races. Angelica Galletti (46.66) and Yvette Domond (58.27) both competed in the 50-yard freestyle race.

Amy Arias-Torres, Hidalgo, Veras and Castellanos opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (2:46.72) before Castellanos, Blige, Warshauer and Veras finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:28.98)
