Men's Basketball Suffers Close Defeat to Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday Night

BRONX, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins by a score of 82-76 on Wednesday night. The Panthers now hold an overall record of 8-11 and a conference record of 3-8
 
The first twelve minutes of the game were tight as both teams were knotted up at 24 with 8:13 left in the first half. Mount Saint Vincent would then end the half on a 22-13 run finishing the half up 46-37. 
 
The Dolphins capitalized off some of Old Wesbury's turnovers with eight points off turnovers in the first half compared to the Panthers' two. 
 
Old Westbury started the second half strong scoring 16 points in the first five minutes of the final half, which would tie the score at 53 apiece. The Panthers would continue to push, taking the lead with 10:17 left in the game at 62-61. 
 
The game continued to be close until the 5-minute mark where the Dolphins would go on a 9-3 run to take a 79-73 lead with 57 seconds left in the game. UMSV would finish out the game at the free-throw line where they would go on to win, 82-76.
 
Old Westbury had a strong second half performance scoring both 13 points off turnovers and 18 points in the paint. 
 
It was a strong night for Kellen Leake who played the full 40 minutes scoring 18 points while making four threes. Four Panthers scored in double-digits while seeing contributions from Joel Oforio with 10 rebounds and Zion Williams with 12 assists.
 
Next up for the Panthers is a Skyline Conference matchup at St. Joseph's Long Island. The Golden Eagles sit at 8-12 with a conference record of 7-4. The Panthers lost the previous matchup earlier this season in a close fight by a score of 67-62. Kellen Leake scored 19 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists in the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 PM on Saturday, February 8.
