@OW_Panthers Women’s Swimming victorious over St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

Old Westbury collided with Sarah Lawrence and St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) in Saturday’s Skyline Conference tri-meet

BRONXVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming returned to the pool Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action from Campbell Sports Center in Bronxville, New York. The women's squad split the day by claiming a 93.5-90.5 victory from the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears, despite falling 130-63 to the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons. On the men's side, Old Westbury dropped a 103-81 decision to the Gryphons.

Jessie O'Hagan paced the women's squad with a trio of second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:24.51), 100-yard freestyle (1:04.53) and 500-yard freestyle (6:54.83) events. Samantha Imbembo also claimed second-place honors with a 15:55.63 finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Old Westbury's 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay squads both swam to third-place finishes.

The Panther men were led led by Zach Abatelli and Jonathan Derby, who each claimed individual first-place finishes. Abatelli swam to victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 15:10.27 while Derby touched the wall in 1:09.75 to win the 100-yard backstroke.

In the 50-yard freestyle race, Kevin Ryersen and Tim Rice both grabbed the wall in 26.12 to share second place. Also claiming second-place laurels were Abatelli (200-yard IM, 2:55.69), Rice (200-backstroke, 1:11.70), Santino Patrizi (100-breaststroke, 1:15.06), Ian Febres (200-yard freestyle, 2:35.40) and Rashaad Bryan (500-yard freestyle, 7:40.87).

Abatelli, Febres, Ryersen and Patrizi later teamed up to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:51.12). Derby, Patrizi, Rice and Bryan combined to swim to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

LEHMAN LIGHTNING UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 24) when they travel to take on the Lehman Lightning in non-conference action from APEX Arena in Bronx at 7 p.m.
