Old Westbury honored nine seniors prior to the start of Wednesday's meet

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming hosted the Brooklyn Bulldogs on Wednesday evening as part of a Senior Day showdown from Clark Athletic Center. The women's squad captured a 99-90 victory while the men's side dropped a 128-71 decision.

Prior to the start the meet, seniors Zach Abatelli, Melanie Barone, Rashaad Bryan, Sezgi Giray, Allie McDonough, Chani Nelson, Santino Patrizi, Tim Rice and Alexis Upshur were honored with Old Westbury's annual Senior Day Ceremony for their dedication to SUNY Old Westbury Athletics.
Jessie O'Hagan paced the Panthers with a trio of victories in the 50-yard freestyle (28.25), 100-yard backstroke (1:22.32) and 500-yard freestyle (6:46.90) events. Barone touched the wall in 15:52.23 to claim first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Kayleigh Aiello clocked a winning time of 2:50.23 in the 200-yard IM race. Old Westbury tallied second-place finishes by Barone (100-yard breaststroke, 1:32.09), Aiello (100-yard butterfly, 1:21.09), McDonough (50-yard freestyle, 30.81), Samantha Imbembo (1,000-yard freestyle, 16:22.99; 100-yard backstroke, 1:27.98) and Sara Bey (200-yard freestyle, 2:57.47).

Collectively, Giray, Anesa Fiyazuddeen, Habiba El-Sayed and Natasha Treuman finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (2:53.15), while Bey, Aiello, McDonough and Barone took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:10.73).

On the men's side, Patrizi swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.51 to earn the win, while Jonah Wegener posted a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 7:11.50. Old Westbury also racked-up second-place finishes by Wegener (1,000-yard freestyle, 14:52.24), Jonathan Derby (200-yard IM, 2:30.08; 100-yard backstroke, 1:06.58), Ian Febres (500-yard freestyle, 7:58.43) and Brett Di Salvo (100-yard breaststroke, 1:25.95).

Derby, Patrizi, Rice and Kevin Ryerson teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.52. Ryerson, Rice, Bryan and Abatelli finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.75).

YORK CARDINALS AND UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action January 13 in non-conference action against the York Cardinals and United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners at 6 p.m. from York College Swimming Pool in Jamiaca, New York.
