Old Westbury remains on the road for Monday’s Skyline Conference showdown at Maritime

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming opened their road schedule Thursday with non-conference action against the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels and College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins inside The Wellness Center in New Rochelle, New York.

Old Westbury topped the host Blue Angels with a 116.50-70.50 decision in men's action as the Panthers claimed victory over Mount Saint Vincent in the women's meet with a 108-62 final, while falling 114-89 to New Rochelle.

Jonah Wegener paced the Panther men with first-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:27.27) and 200-yard IM (3:10.68) events. In freestyle competition, Kevin Ryersen clocked a time of 25.11 in the 50-yard race to tie for first, while Takis Kellarakos touched the wall first in the 500 yard (6:26.24) and second in the 1,000 yard (13:59.43) event. Lorenzo Cusumano added first and second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:22.14) and 200-yard backstroke (3:19.35) races, respectively. Ian Febres (100-yard butterfly, 1:24.89; 200-yard butterfly, 3:18.88) and Chaz La Salle-Cruz (100-yard freestyle, 1:08.84; 200-yard freestyle, 2:49.21) both collected a pair of second-place finishes, while Abdelrahman Keshk finished behind Wegener in the 200-yard breaststroke (4:43.19). Old Westbury also swept a pair of relay races as Cusumano, Wegener, Febres and Ryersen finished the 200-yard medley in 2:18.30 before Ryersen, Kellarakos, Jack Costanzo and Daniel Laferriere combined to swim a 2:00.68 in the 200-yard freestyle.

On the women's side, Samantha Imbembo registered the Panthers' lone individual first-place finish with a time of 16:13.34 in the 1,000-yard freestyle before taking second in the 500-yard freestyle in 7:54.20. Jessie O'Hagan finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.09) and 200-yard backstroke (2:33.65) events. Megan Hanselman (200-yard backstroke, 3:24.53), Mia Hidalgo (200-yard IM, 3:00.64), Habiba Nofal (1,000-yard freestyle, 16:43.03), Tatianna Pizarro (200-yard butterfly, 3:34.67) and Melody Young (200-yard freestyle, 2:53.40) all earned second-place finishes. O'Hagan, Imbembo, Sara Bey and Nofal combined to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:12.56) after Young, Hanselman, Pizarro and Sezgi Giray claimed second in the 200-yard medley relay (2:29.18).

SUNY MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road next Monday (Nov. 14) for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference battle with the SUNY Maritime Privateers inside Riesenberg Hall Pool.
