MVB PREVIEW

Men’s Volleyball to Open 2025 Season at Home on Tuesday Against Lehman

| By:
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.- The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball program is set to begin their second season with a four game homestand starting Tuesday, February 4 against Lehman.

The Panthers will enter their second official season with Head Coach Ryan Pastuch leading the charge once again. Last year, the Panthers finished their inaugural season where they secured the team's first wins in program history.

The team returns with a very new look to it. Despite a handful of returning student-athletes, the Panthers are set to feature many new faces.

Returning the squad is the reigning Skyline Conference All-Conference First Team Libero, Jose Lorenzo Santos. Last season, Lorenzo Santos led the entire NCAA DIII in digs per set. Additionally, Ash Santos returns as captain having led the team in service aces last year. In 2024, as a team, Panthers totaled 448 kills, 390 assists, and 67 aces.

This year's squad will rely on the emergence of all of the new faces along with the tutelage from the veteran players. Some newcomers to look out for include first-year outside hitter, Liam Eisel, and junior transfer Connor Williams, who joins OW from Nassau Community where he played for two seasons. Torrence Fredericks is a first-year middle who's impact at the net will help improve the Panthers' overall attack. Kevin Alarcon will look to help the Panthers' back row where he will provide strong passing.

"This new group was our first recruiting class as a program. We brought in a lot of first years who have experience and can each bring something unique to the table. I am looking forward to seeing how it all comes together as we continue to grow this program as the season moves along" said Head Coach Ryan Pastuch.

This season, the Panthers will see a variety of competition both within the Skyline Conference and some competitive non-conference opponents. OW will look to their home fans to bring the energy and excitement back to the Clark Center Gymnasium.

Old Westbury will open the season with a four game homestand with their opening match on Tuesday, February 4 against Lehman. Following that, the Panthers will face off against Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, February 6 (conference opener), then Bryn Athyn, and Pratt the following week.

The Panthers will take part in four separate tri-matches over the course of the season. The first including SJLI and Mount Saint Vincent on the road on March 1. The second tri-match will include Sarah Lawrence and Ramapo hosted by SLC. Old Westbury will host two tri-matches on March 16 and March 29, respectively.

The Panthers will close out the season on March 31 against New Jersey City University.

"We really want to compete, play hard, and try to make the playoffs. That would be a great goal for us to accomplish in our second year."
