BROOKLYN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's swimming team traveled to take on future Skyline Conference foe, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears, Friday evening from Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, New York. Old Westbury (1-2) started strong but was unable to maintain its early lead as the Bears (1-0) took a 51-43 non-conference decision.

Old Westbury roared past the Bears in the opening event to claim the 200-yard medley relay victory with a combined effort of Jessie O'Hagan, Melanie Barone, Tatianna Pizarro and Mallory Buzyniski in 2:18.82. Jacquin Chiriguayo then touched the wall in 16:03.39 to register second-place in the 1,000-yard freestyle race to maintain Old Westbury's 10-6 lead through two events.

St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) would take the next five events before O'Hagan clocked a winning time of 1:10.71 in the 100-yard backstroke to pull Old Westbury within striking distance, 39-30, at the end of eight races.

Hayley McGinn then recorded a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 7:57.74 as Chiriguayo followed in second place in 8:08.65 to trim Old Westbury's deficit to two points, 40-38. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) pulled away over the final two events with first and third-place finishes in both the 100-yard breast and 200-yard freestyle relay races to slip past Old Westbury with a 53-41 final.

BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on November 11 against the Brooklyn Bulldogs in a non-conference battle from Clark Athletic Center at 6 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
